Aluminum YJ Buggy

Aluminum YJ Buggy

This buggy started out as a personal Rock Crawling rig for the owner of TB Offroad Fabrication, we wanted something with Low Center of Gravity (LCOG), a lot of Horse Power, Big tires, and resembled a YJ.

He started out with a vision in mind and turned that into a reality (partially, it's still a work in progress at the moment)

We took inspiration from different builds he loved seeing on YouTube and instagram and kind of combined them into one.

We love the look of the old square headlight front end YJs, but also the body length of an LJ.

We combined the two by using a YJ Aluminum Skin Set from Aqualu Industries, that was then cut apart and stretched to be 15" longer than a stock YJ body, and of course a YJ front end, complete with a Chris Durham Motorsports YJ fiberglass Hood.

The buggy itself is a TB Offroad design, and utilizes some different styles in the cage design that I have always loved, the whole bottom half of the chassis is constructed out of 1.75" X .188" DOM steel tube, everything is 1.75" X .120" DOM steel tube.

For suspension, it has a double triangulated front 4-link set-up with 2.75" dia. Alum 7075 links (available on this website) along with 2.5 King 14" 3-Tube bypass shocks, and emulsion coilovers. The rear has a set of 40" 7075 TB Offroad Fabrication aluminum trailing arms, with 2.5" dia. aluminum upper control arms, along with 2.5 King Adjustable Reservoir Coilovers. The front axle is 14 Bolt center, with 05+ super duty out C's, Aluminum 7075 Knuckles by American Iron Offroad, AIO Ball Joint Eliminators, and 74" WMS-WMS and was built by TTR Axle and Fabrication. The Rear Axle is also a 14 Bolt center, that has been re-tubed here is the shop to match the front axle width of 74" WMS-WMS, Both axles feature a set of TB Offroad 14 Bolt axle trusses.

Steering is full hydro with a 2.75x8" ram from PSC, and an Eaton Char-lynn Load reactive orbital. also has a TB Offroad tube mounted Adjustable steering column just to make it more comfortable for different drivers, and easier to get in and out of the buggy.

Drive train - A buggy like this deserves some big power... sitting under the hood is a  416CI 6.0 LQ4, that has been bored out .030" over, has a 4" stroke, fully balanced rotating assembly by Smeding Performance (Crankshaft- Smeding 4340 6 counter weight, internal balance, 4.000 stroke. Rods - Smeding 4340 Forged Steel H-beam w/8740 bolts. Pistons - 4032 Forged Aluminum, Coated skirts), A Texas Speed Giant Stroker Cam (248/254, .615"/.615", 112 LSA 110 ICL), fabricated intake body, LS3 lifters, 130lb EV6 Injectors, and a set of 260cc 11 Degree heads by Smeding Performance. Behind that is a fully built 4L80E, and an Atlas 2 4.3:1, powered by a Holley Performance Terminator.

With Big power you need a good braking system, so this buggy has a Wide Open Design HydroBoost brake kit, with a Wilwood Master Cylinder

The Interior is still non-existent as this is a work in progress, and we will be updating this post as we continue building it between customer work.
